Kids these days

This is what I grew up using.  We had Atari, which came with a joystic.  The joystick, as you can see, had one button and a stick, and that's all that was needed.  You moved the stick around, you pushed the button.  That was it, end of story.  And it was fun.

This is what my kids have, it's the Play Station 2 controller.  It has a shitload of buttons and two little bitty joysticks that are used by each thumb.  My boy wanted me to play his Star Wars game with him.  He practically begged me.  Ok *deep breath* tell me how to use this thing...

B:  OK - the X is to jump the O is to crouch the square isn't used and I don't really know what the triangle is used for.

K:  Wha...

B:  The left joystick + O makes you roll, L1 fires your secondary weapon, L2 switches your secondary weapon, R1 fires your first weapon, R2 switches your first weapon.  Now all you have to do is capture all of the command posts there are 5 or 6 of them, and they can be recaptured by enemies.  Ok GO.

K:  Help me dear lord...

B:  Mom you need to run RUN and fire, do you see where I am?

K:  ahahahaha oh shit I'm not running I can't run!hahaha

A:  MOM, the left one makes you walk, the right one makes you run PUSH THE RIGHT ONE

K:  But when I push the right one it just pans all around IT'S NOT RUNNING what the HEL-HAHAHAHA geez...hahaahaI SUCKhahahaha can we please go do training so I can practice???

B:  OK here's training, your mission is to try to capture the three command posts...when you're at a command post pushing the triangle makes you able to switch characters or to a Jedi...

K:  WHAT THE CRAP I still can't run!HAHAHAHA*snort*haheeheeheehhahaha

A:  MOM PUSH THE RIGHT ONE SO YOU CAN RUN

B:  Mom you aren't running.

K:  I know, I'm doing THE MOONWALK heehaaaahahahahahahahaahhhhhgeezhahahahaha

B:  Mom, do you just want to play a game together later, like a board game?

K:  *giggle*hahaha do you want to just play this by yourself? hehehehahahaha((((LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY AT MYSELF))))

B:  Yes.

I can still feel the shame...

Kim what are you, a masochist? Didn't they tell you that the minute kids pop out of the oven they are already hardwired with about a billion more neurons than we are? Might as well try and make gold out of lead than inflict one of those things on yourself! Oh, by the way. I have a PS3 and it makes me scream more than laugh! 8-))

Oh, my God I so hear you! I look at the equipment the guys have at the group home and they want me to play with them, I think I need to take another look at who is developmentally disabled! I quick run and get them one of their buddies to play with them. I can squeak out a game of WII bowling and thats it. I am so proud of myself. Hang in there it is only going to get worse.

You kid sounds like mine. I miss the days of Atari. My kids don't even try to explain XBOX anymore.

We must be on the same psychic wavelength. I was just commenting about a joystick today. It was a clean comment.
