L'eggo my ego

A good friend gave us a *fat* Christmas card, which we split three ways.  With my third I splurged on Stephen King's newest novel, 11/22/63.  Proud that I would be immersing myself into 842 pages as opposed to my usual daily reading of facebook status updates, I heaved the ten pound behemoth and settled in for a good read.

My boy, who had just finished his latest novel, sidled up next to me with one of his Christmas gifts, the latest book in the Eragon series, Inheritance.

How many pages are in your book Mom?

Eight hundred and forty-two, I said with a smug grin.  How many in YOUR book little boy?

Eight hundred and forty-nine.  I have you beat by SEVEN pages...hehe...

It's ok, I don't need my ego anyway.

Little shit.

You're talking to someone who felt compelled to beat fourth graders in timed multiplication quizzes.

Having just read King's book "On Writing," and nothing else he'd ever written I was eager to download a sample of his latest book, but at the end of about the first 20 pages or so I wasn't drawn in enough to buy the thing. You'll have to do a review for us.

My husband loves Stephen King. He's a great writer, but I have trouble reading him. He creates these wonderful little characters, makes you love them, and then kills them off in a dreadful fashion. Your son's book is longer than that one? Oy vey!

I've got it on my nightstand. Just finishing Twighlight. The first book I ever read for the second time. Looking forward to 11/2/63.
