That's what friends are for

Sometimes we find that the best things in life
Are the friends we have who surround us
And unknowingly protect us...
Friends who come in all shapes and sizes,
Diverse in their ages, genders, religions, and life stories.

One dear friend I have known since toddlerhood
When life was effortless...innocent...imaginitive.
We have had the privilege of growing together,
Despite the hundreds of miles that are now between us.
Our childhood existence has been shed to reveal two women;
Two mothers who still depend on each other
At times when we need to know things are ok.

My life is abundant with friends who are new
Yet no less valuable.
Some have drifted in, as if riding a warm summer breeze
Landing gently yet firmly at the perfect time.
Some have come by surprise, sneaking in,
Quietly offering their unwavering comfort
That only friends can do.

Let's not forget the friendship of sisters.
I have four sisters to lean on,
Four sisters to laugh with,
Four sisters to reminisce with about the good, the bad, and the ugly.
A force of nature when we are fortunate enough to gather together,
Laughing hysterically with and at each other.

The most significant acts of friendship
Have come in the most simple ways...
A cup of tea and a muffin on a cold blue morning;
The image of sunshine giving us life
And warming our souls, bringing a smile
When it is most needed;
A glass of wine and a good heart-to-heart;
A message on the phone just saying "Hi."

I am truly blessed to have such incredible friends.
Life would not be the same without their
Comfort, laughter, and support.
You all know who you are
And I am forever grateful.
