On compliments

I wasn't feelin' it at work today.  I was tired, achy, TIRED, wanting to be with my kids at their field day, TIRED, and grumpy.  YES I WAS GRUMPY.  I found myself at Taco Bell during my lunch break welling up as I texted someone about my bad day, and when I mentioned my kids the dam broke just a little.  Had to go to the restroom to blow my nose and blot my eyes.

I don't know what the Hell is wrong with me right now, physically, emotionally, mentally... but when it hits my emotional button, it hits out of nowhere and it hits hard.  And it pisses me off because really there is no reason for near-meltdowns at Taco Bell.  I'm an "officer" in uniform for cryin' out loud.

Anyway, the point to all this is that something changed my mood - not a 180 degree change by any means, but it put a smile where there was only a quivering lip.  During a 30-minute rotation at the walk-through metal detector, two grown men complimented me on my hair, about fifteen minutes apart from each other.  I've been wearing it curly lately because it's long enough to look decent curly, and these men were kind enough to tell me I had beautiful hair.  MADE MY DAY.

So for all of you out there who are reading, please pass this little tidbit along to anyone and everyone:  Complimenting someone may just make their day.  Especially the curly-haired freak with watery eyes.
