Tom Brokaw and other oddballs

Tom Brokaw came through our little hole-in-the-wall airport this morning.  Hold your panties ladies, he's taken!  I was at the walk-through-metal-detector and didn't realize it was him until he spoke - that voice resonated through me like the Hallelujah Chorus!  He was a quiet man, alone and pretty much unnoticed by other travelers - he could have been any old man, a little disheveled and still half-asleep at such an early hour of the morning.

That is, until he put himself back together.  I watched with mild curiosity, as he shoved himself into a shiny, silvery, slightly puffy, too-snug jacket, then pulled on a pair of cowboy boots with his wind pants tucked into them.  My gawd, THE Tom Brokaw looked like a total dork!

It got me thinking about all the silly things I've seen in my job over the years, mostly when I worked in Denver.  People are fascinating.  Sometimes a bit gross, sometimes ridiculous, sometimes flat out what. the. fuck?

I've seen a grown man dressed as a bunny; a grown man dressed as a banana; a young 20-something couple, both wearing mouse ears and tails; twice I saw the same man in a kilt who would bend over on purpose to show his large white pendulous balls (even blogged about that one here); men dressed as women; women dressed as men; and plenty of women dressed like hookers.

If you like to people-watch, pack a lunch and git on over to the nearest airport.  I promise, you won't be disappointed.

***I forgot the best one of all!  Last summer Lady Gaga came through the Denver Airport.  This is how she looked!

I got this picture from Lady Gaga's twitter, so I suppose I should give the proper photo credit to her.

Good morning!

I've seen too many odd balls to take much notice. I was born in the City of San Francisco and lived in LA for years...I think that kind of explains it. As far as certain celebrities are concerned, especially journalists and politicians (of which I see everyday here in DC) when they are deprived of their "upkeep" staff, they start looking a little "trailorish." Is that unkind? ;-)

LC Guy in the scheme of things, I guess my oddball sightings are few and far between. I'm sure you've seen them all! And no, "tailorish" is not unkind, just true!

My husband Alex was called to active duty right after 9/11. Soldiers were placed at the local airports and he was shifted between Oakland and San Francisco. He met and had a picture taken with the guys from Green Day and also said hello to Alica Keys. I saw Tina Turner and Ike (her then husband) at the SF airport. Airports are the greatest places just to watch people.
