Bright ideas for $1,000 please

As I was leaving work this morning I got this text from the kids:

Dishwasher is on is that ok?

A quick call determined they had started the dishwasher.  On their own.

The short drive drive home had me wondering what the fuck happened to my kids.

"What the FUCK happened to my kids??"
I entered the apartment and began asking questions to the two sitting at the table, quietly eating their cereal.

K: Uhhhhh who's idea was it to start the dishwasher?  I mean, THANK YOU, I very much appreciate it but...

A: It was my idea.

K: What made you want to do that?  I mean, don't get me wrong, THANK YOU, but...

A:  Well, I wanted to do it before someone forgot.  We're almost out of these bowls (she pointed to the ones they were using, the ones always used last because they are too shallow for a good bowl of cereal), and I didn't want the dishes to be forgotten for when we want to eat cereal tomorrow.

K:  By "someone forgot" you mean I didn't get the dishes done...

A:  Uh huh.

K:  Ugh...I'm just la

A:  lazy.

I was ready to smack her upside the head pout when a brilliant idea came to me.  If someone "keeps forgetting" other things, maybe the minions will clean them too!

How pink would the inside of the toilet have to become before she decided "someone forgot" to clean it?

How filthy and stanky would clothes have to become before she had enough of "someone forgetting" to do laundry?

How hairy and rancid would the food in the fridge have to become before she realized that "someone forgot" to throw it away?

I'm pretty sure I'm onto something here...

Our house would become one giant science experiment (as if it's not already), but it just might be worth it.

Dunno. If they were my kids, I'd thank heavens.
They're growing into fine little people. :)

Pink?

Your toilet bowl turns pink?

Is this cuz you got a girl?

I only have boys and you don't want to know what color MY toilet turns!

HA!

Kim,

I love you and your kids. That's why I should say good-bye now. I have no faith in the "committedness" of adults or children. Adults generally choose to stop being committed where children are simply overwhelmed by dozens of fascinating new impulses everyday. So either way I will say good-bye now because I fear one day you will be lost in a gigantic rancid slimy hairball of unspeakable putrefaction.

Maybe you could just say no. Stay with me alittle longer, wash the dishes, clean the toilet, clear the drain traps so I may enjoy the beauty that is you for awhile longer :-)

Lost ya on that one, huh? :-) basically if you leave it to the kids you may disappear in a Gigantic smelly hairball that used to be your house (because in the end you thought the kids were cleaning and they thought you were...I just don't want to lose you that way :-)

Should I quit while I'm behind? :-)

Experiment on the kids with this! I wonder what they'll do! I bet they make a bigger mess trying to clean up a mess!

Do you think if you forgot to take them to school..... they might find their own way there too?...

School is a block and a half away Steve...already have that one covered. :)

I was expecting you to be swept up in a tide of suds when you walked in, so here's to happy endings. And I'd trade a few backhanded insults for kids who clean.

Have you tried to actually give them responsibilities? I mean hwen I was 7, 8, 9 onwards my sister and i had stuff we had t odo every day. Like I had to vacum the hallway and parents' room every day after school(we had a dog) and my sister had to vacum the rest and peel potatos or prepare things before mum got back from work. And on saturdays aside form the usual vacuming I had to clean the bathroom and toilet, my sister our room and something else and my dad was doing the living rooom etc. Then when my sister left house it was all on me. But it was fine. You kind of get into the routine. Maybe give them little everyday duties? WHat do you htink?
oh yeah, my dad was in the army... that might explain things...

Roxy, as a matter of fact I said something to them about regular chores just a couple days go. Soon as I figure out what I want them to do I'll put them to work. :)
