The old one

When I see myself at college, I see the old lady version - the one who doesn't know what she's doing, the one who doesn't really fit in because her life isn't lived on campus amongst her peers, the one who has crow's feet.  You get my drift.

Feeling old has felt like a bit of a drag until yesterday, when a girl in my acting class said something that made me go...

Huh.

Our professor is out of town for the week, and in the email he sent to us he outlined what he wanted us to do.  We were sitting around a bit perplexed because the person he put in charge hadn't shown up yet.  Should we stay, should we go, should we wait?  No one knew quite what to do.

Then it happened.  The girl, the pretty, smart, popular one, looked at me and said,

You're the oldest one here, what should we do?

For a split second I was all, UGH.  Then I was all, shit she values me as grown-up and is looking for guidance. From ME.

Something similar happened a couple months ago when the professor didn't show up and again, we didn't know what to do.  That time another girl looked at me and asked what I thought we should do.  I did get the feeling there was a reason she asked me, but I blew it off and thought nothing more of it.

But after yesterday when I was singled out for being OLD, instead of allowing it to drag me through mud and poop and self-pity, I went away with a feeling of pride.

That's right bitchez, apparently with age and kids comes wrinkles and wisdom.

Put that in your dorm room and smoke it!

Ugh.  Don't smoke it.  Also with age comes responsibility.  Please don't smoke anything.
